This Memorial Day weekend I stopped by the Boone County Courthouse to photograph the memorials there.
Thirty names are etched into the Vietnam Memorial. Most if not all of them graduates of David H. Hickman High School.
Three names of soldiers and marines are etched into the Desert Storm and Enduring Freedom memorial.
The WWII and Korean War Memorial.
WWI-The war to end all wars.
The Great Civil War or The War Between the States.
140 names etched onto this stone. By far the greatest number are Confederate soldiers. I am impressed that this is dedicated to the sacrifice of both the North and the South.
God Bless America. Bird-out
Every Memorial Day Norbert, with tears in his eyes, would attend a service wherever we were. This was the first year without him in the fifty years we were together. His war experiences were my war experiences, as I lived them with him in his memories and nightmares. He never shared with anyone else but me. Memorial Day was a day of healing for him.
Marie, we lived those experiences with him as well. We have several widows that attend our reunions. The feedback is generally the same as what we get from a first-time attendee, ” I thought I was alone with these feelings” Please consider coming to a reunion. We have lots of memories about Burl.
Thank you. Could never talk him into going to a reunion. Will consider it. I know I am not alone. His death is hitting me like a slow bullet to my heart.
